Hailing from Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, it's no surprise that the avant-black metal act Offret share their name with the film by the great Andrei Tarkovsky (also known as "The Sacrifice" in English). Most of the album's seven tracks start off relentless and punishing, then crumble away and morph into cinematic, apocalyptic soundscapes. It's a melting pot of so many styles beyond metal and it is incredible how cohesive the work sounds. It's a reflection on the human condition and it is a journey worth taking. These sounds hearken to the bestial beginnings of mankind.
